With new people joining all the time, it's hard to know who's who. I thought this would be a good place to introduce ones self.
I'll start the ball rolling.
My name is TonyC and I'm an RDS owner in southwestern PA. Located in a suburb just north of Pittsburgh. I started "Eat In Express Takeout Food Taxi" in March 2006.
If you want to know more or less about me, click on my name just above the star on the left, to view my profile.
Happy Posting! Tony

I remember those times... I'm still struggling, only because of my area. We are moving into a new area soon and already getting great results from the restaurant owners.
If you have any questions don't be shy, ask away, we are here to help you be a success.

My name is Danah Jewett. I am really just considering starting an RDS. I am more so hopoing to have a few customers a day and make some supplemental income to help out my family. I am a stay at home mom and want to continue to stay at home, but still contribute a paycheck to help out.
My desire is to do all the work...Take orders, contract with some resturants, and deliver by myself. Once I have a large enough customer base I will consider hiring some employees to drive etc. As I said right now my goal is to make some extra money for the family.
I am considering simply printing some flyers, business cards, and Ordering booklets (where I would have the menus of the different resturants listed) to leave with potiential customers. I would only be able to accept cash and check since I don't have the means to accept credit cards.
There are a few resturants I am thinking of talking to, but most of them are mom and pop type resturants...A "Vietnamese place", "Ladda Thai", and "The Korean Resturant". The food at each of these places is so good and not to expensive. Do I need to find a way to contract with at least one larger resturant? Or maybe some place that at least does Hamburgers or something? I am thinking of charging like $2.00/ person ordering, with a minimum of $5.00.
I don't really know, these are just my first thought ideas....
Any help appreciated...

Welcome to the forum Danah.
Mom and Pop are the best to work with. If you decide to use DataWedge software they have a credit card package along with the software package. Call and ask to speak to David, he will explain everything you need to know. The number is 208-874-4185.

Some food for thought...
Who takes orders when you're out making deliveries?
What if two people both want their food at 12:00pm?

Yeah, actually I was talking with a friend yesterday and realized that this is not going to become a reality for me. She mentioned the fact that I would need commercial insurance on my van...I called and teh company wants like $2,000/per year or $250/month. I was just hoping to make like $300/ per month or so, so this is just not a practicl idea for me. It was just suppose to be a few hours a day for a small amount of money so I could have a little extra cash....Oh well. Maybe I will think of something else to try.

Hello,
My name is Jon and I am currently trying to learn the process of starting my own RDS. I live oustside of Buffalo, NY and I see a huge gap in the delivery market. I have managed a local pizza shop for about 7 years. We have over 10 pizza shops in our small community of 30,000 people, that do between 40-80 deliveries in a day/night. I feel we have so many pizza shops because lack of choice in food delivery. I know the market and many citizens in the community and we also have a string of hotels that are often filled.
I just have some fears in trying to sign up restaurants and gettng the ball rolling. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! |

| Hey Jon, my name is Ron, I've been in the biz for about 3 years. Feel free to email me any direct questions you have about starting an RDS or signing restaurants. I'm the membership chair for the RMDA (www.rmda.info) and field questions from new operators often. Email me at Ron@JustDineIn.com anytime. |
